Understanding and Using Python & Arc.Py in ArcGIS 10

 

This course starts at the beginning with learning the basics of the Python programming language. It is an excellent choice for people not having any experience with programming languages. You will learn the advantages and disadvantages of the language, proper construction and syntax. Starting with beginning scripts you will progress to working with built-in data, control flow structures, variables and assignments, handling strings, messages and more! After learning the basics, ArcPy is introduced then incorporated with GIS and geoprocessing activities. You will end with exciting data driven pages!

 

This class is the equivalent of a full 2-day traditional class. You will receive 10-13 contact hours with the instructor. Additionally, as in all Kessler GIS web classes, there is the ability to work with instructor via desktop sharing and you receive assistance long after the class.

Pre-Reqs: Strong skill with ArcGIS Desktop and knowledge of ArcToolbox. This class assumes no previous programming experience.

Class Sessions:

               7 lecture sessions:M/T/W/Th first week; M/T/W second week

                   (est. 1 - 1.5 hours ea. first session is longer at about 2.5-3.0 hours)

               7 self-paced exercises

                   (est. 8 - 10 total hrs outside of regular class time)

                    (est. .5 - 1.5 hrs to review final exercise and summarize learning)
